Our history
1892
Maurice Schaerer founds a company in Bern that will later become known as Schaerer Medical AG. Together with Nobel laureate Prof. Theodor Kocher, he develops surgical instruments.
1912
Schaerer launches one of the world’s first mobile operating tables – awarded the Grand Prix at the 1914 World’s Fair in Paris.
1957
With the Nova X-Ray, Schaerer introduces the first operating table with an X-ray-permeable tabletop and central control – a milestone in medical imaging.
1993
Schaerer develops the first operating table series certified for both Europe and the USA – the foundation for the later Axis 400–800 range.
1998–2002
The company relocates its headquarters and production to Münsingen near Bern, where manufacturing continues today.
2001–2008
Acquisition of Ohio Medical Instruments (USA) and temporary brand presence as Schaerer Mayfield. After successful restructuring, the company reverts to Schaerer Medical AG in 2008.
2009
Introduction of the Schaerer Arcus operating table with a load capacity of 500 kg and the MIS Extension System – developed with Swiss orthopedic specialists for minimally invasive hip surgery.
2011
Strengthening global presence, service, and technician training worldwide.
2015
Launch of new solutions for spine and orthopedic surgery: the modular Schaerer MTS traction system and the Schaerer CSF Carbon Spine Frame.
2022
Schaerer Medical celebrates 130 years of excellence and 110 years of mobile operating tables – proud of Swiss quality, surgical precision, and close partnerships with clinics worldwide.
